Description: Koehn sold fighting knives under the AOK Knives label. This Knuckle Knife is a modified US Mark I Trench Knife. The knife has a cast aluminum handle with the inner ear removed and the body painted in black & green camo. On the top of the grip it is stamped AOK KNIVES NO.7 and on the side in a raised casting is BY ARMAND. Blade is a 7 inch version of the 1918 Mark I Trench Knife blade. The leather scabbard is riveted in 5 places, painted in black & green camo also, and marked AOK KNIVES HAND CRAFTED BY ARMAND KOEHN. Reference for this rare specimen is Adrian Van Dyk List #114, #165.

Description: This Moorish Dagger as my father named it, has a blade that is forged from chrome molybdenum steel scavenged from Mitsubishi seaplane struts. The steel was difficult to work with and he used a twenty pound trip hammer to aid him. The dagger has a guard and crown type pommel cap made of Monel with the spiral grip being made of duraluminum alloy. This is a one of a kind specimen that he made for his enjoyment. Description: This knife was made either on another USN ship in the Pacific Theater or in Australia by someone who had acquired a set of Dad's 1st Pattern Prototype Brass Knuckles. Once they had the brass knuckles as a pattern then they cast it onto a blade. This blade is stamped at the ricasso T1177 which was used in WWII for identification purposes by the owner. I acquired this specimen in Australia. It is a serious knife and weighs about 3 pounds!

Dad made these knuckles in very limited numbers for other sailors before WWII broke out. He did not make any knives with these brass pattern knuckles but others in the Pacific did make knives using this pattern in WWII.

Description: This is Dad's personal Ka-Bar knife with the knuckles removed for faster access in combat situations since he found it was advantageous to be able to use the skull crusher if you couldn't get the blade into the Jap jumping in your foxhole. Even with a helmet on, the enemy could be slowed up with the skull crusher until you could get the blade working. Knife has the standard issue Ka-Bar sheath. Collar tab is from the first Jap Officer he killed. This knife is the actual knife illustrated in Cole's Book IV p. 161.

Since I was partial to the US Model 1910 Bolo, he forged a bolo blade from a Studebaker leaf spring and cast his knuckle pattern onto the blade. Later, I had a friend etch a scene onto the blade. LF&C metal scabbard was late issue for the US Model 1910 Bolo.

Description: Dad made this knife aboard the USS Holland on the way back after the Japanese had surrendered. Description: This Foster Knuckle Knife has the identical knuckle guard that appears on the OSS Drop Knives and the tang is welded in the same spot. The bright 6 3/4 inch reversed edge blade is marked: FOSTER BROS. MADE IN U. S. A. and the wood grip slab is stamped FOSTER also. The original brown leather scabbard with the owner's name accompanies the knife. This is a rare specimen. This is the actual knife that appears in Cole IV p. 173.
Name: Gilbert Islands Shark Tooth Knuckle Knife
Description: This knife was brought back from the Pacific Theater by W. E. Wichman, US Army at the end of WWII. The knife was hand forged with engraving on the blade with native mahogany slabs pinned in place with brass. A leather hand sewn neck scabbard with a similar pattern to the blade incised in the external leather. Stone's Glossary p. 365 shows the use of the shark tooth in knuckledusters in the Samoan and Gilbert Islands back to ancient times but this is more recent due to the steel replacing the actual shark tooth. Quite a formidable weapon in trained hands.

Description: This knife was made in England circa 1942 by the Lockwood Brothers under military contract. The aluminum alloy grip is marked with a CROWN BROAD ARROW 4 and has a double-edged blade that is 2 7/8 inches long. Knife is accompanied by the original scabbard. Name: Messenger Knuckle Knife
Description: This William H. Messenger Knuckle Knife ia an unmarked specimen. The 7 7/8" bright blade is made of Ketos steel which was used in anti-aircraft shells and was a special high carbon, high chrome steel that was very hard to work with. Some call it an early stainless steel formulation. Knuckle knife has a brass guard and knucks with a brown Bakelite handle. The scabbard was again made by August Ziegler in Jackson, MI. This knife also appears in my article in Knife World, May, 1992 and is the knife shown in Cole's Book IV p.165.

Name: Richie USN CB Knuckle Knife
Description: M. M. Richie a USN Seabee made this Knuckle Knife with a triangular tool steel blade 7 inches in length that rings when struck. A brass knuckle handle with 4 finger stalls was cast onto the blade and the S shaped steel guard. 3 steel pyramidal spikes were set in the knucklebow and the back of the grip was carved out to fit the bulldozer controls. There are no references as I obtained it from his widow.

Description: This Knuckle Knife features a 10 1/4" blade made from a US Model 1860 Cavalry Saber blade. Blade is marked at the ricasso: U. S., D. F. M, 1864 and on the reverse ricasso: EMERSON & SILVER, TRENTON, N. J. Handle is a cast aluminum copy of a US Mark I Trench knife made in France by Au Lion with the grooved back and is marked U. S. 1918. The skullcrusher nut has been enlarged and lenghtened. The original scabbard appears to have been fabricated from a bayonet scabbard with the mounts painted aluminum. Description: This aluminum handled Knuckle Knife has a 9 3/4 inch double edged spearpoint blade. The 4 finger stall handle is engraved: JACK F. TAYLOR U. S. M. C. LATONIA, KY. Original heavy brown scabbard is stamped on belt hanger U. S. M. C. JACK F. TAYLOR. There is no reference book on this knife but I have another specimen just like it marked with both the owner and maker names.

Description: Unmarked Aussie Knuckle Knife with aluminum hilt cast onto blades made from Pattern 1907 bayonet blades shortened to about 7 inches. Specimen has some resemblence to the American Everitt Knuckle Knife. Complete with original leather scabbard. Reference is Flook, British Commonwealth Military Knives p. 167, plate 391.

This British made commercial Knuckle Knife was a Popular Style that was known to have been made by Clement, Hibbert and Sons, and George Ibberson in both marked and unmarked varieties. It has a slim reversed edge, Bowie blade of 5 inches in length and aluminum knuckles with either ebony or Bakelite grips. Thje original scabbard accompanies the knife. Name: W. D. Wilcoxson Knuckle Knife
Description: This Wilcoxson Knuckle Knife has a cast aluminum handle that is marked on one side: MADE BY W. D. WILCOXSON and on the reverse side GORDON J. WOLFE O-833655 AUG. 15 1944. The blade is a bright double edged spearpoint that is 10 1/2 inches long with a swell in the middle. Original heavy brown leather scabbard is marked CLEARHIDE that indicates the sheath was probably made from factory leather belting. Mr. W. D. Wilcoxson was a resident of Terre Haute, Indiana and made these knives at a factory there during WWII.
